In Portland, Oregon, the “Smart Growth” laws have forced communities to

increase the densities of their neighborhoods.  This has led to the development

of “Skinny Houses” which are 15 feet wide, on 25 foot wide lots.

Here you see a single-family ranch on a 100               Therefore it is destroyed to make room for the

foot  lot.  However, this does not allow the                  new “Skinny Houses” to be built

     densities required by “Smart Growth”

Here we see the construction of the new houses,                 Four “Skinny Houses” replace the single home.

which will take the place of the single home                         Each home is 15 feet wide.  This is an example of

destroyed to enable higher densities.                                   the so-called “Smart Growth Utopia”.

In some instances lots are not available, therefore, they are created.

The space between these two homes is too large for the densities

required by “Smart Growth”, so these beautiful pine trees are

sacrificed in order to make way for another “Skinny Home.”

After construction is complete we have a new lot, created where there was not one before.

Notice that both neighbors now have privacy fences in their back yards.  This is the result of forcing

people to live in high density neighborhoods, they must close off what yards they have to get any privacy.

These “Skinny Houses” are what Oregonians consider “affordable housing”, even though they cost

over $200,000 each.  Is this really how we want to live?

Still think “Smart Growth” is so smart?
